New DeepMix Digs!
From our former office building at Sunset and Argyle we watched the demolition and construction of the massive development one block to the North. At last it’s complete and not only does it contain the new W Hotel (built directly above the Hollywood/Vine subway station) but also the new DeepMix offices at 1600 Vine Street adjacent to the hotel. The gym and pool and other amenities are going to test our discipline and focus somewhat but we hope to get some work done, nonetheless. A new Trader Joe’s opens soon which should come in handy now that we have a full kitchen to replace our coffee machine and mini fridge. The W Hotel and 1600 Vine share a common valet parking area accessed from Argyle just south of Hollywood Blvd. DeepMix Guest DJSitting in as our guest DJ for this issue is Ivo Knezevic, a
veteran producer with an eye and an ear for the extraordinary.
Artist SpotlightTwo-time GRAMMY nominee, electronic musician and underground darling, Carmen Rizzo, is a frequent fixture in album credits as a producer, mixer, remixer, musician, and co-writer for a wide range of influential artists including Seal, Coldplay, Alanis Morissette, Paul Oakenfold, BT, Tiesto, and Pete Townshend of The Who. As
a recording artist he has released two electronic albums, “The Lost Art
Of The Idle Moment” and “Ornament Of An Impostor” featuring
collaborations with Jem, Kate Havnevik, Esthero and Grant Lee Phillips.
He co-founded the influential group Niyaz with Azam Ali and Loga Ramin
Torkian and was part of Lal Meri with Nancy Kaye and Ireesh Lal. British
Oscar winning director Michael Apted recently called on Carmen to score
the film “Power of the Game" and you can also hear his composition and
performance skills featured on the closing theme to the Sony PS3 game,
Unchartered 2.
DeepMix recently collaborated with Carmen on a project for Volkswagen via Creative On Demand. The spot utilizes a contemporary arrangement of the Suzanne Vega hit "Tom's Diner" and will be launched sometime in April. Here's another spot the DeepMix crew has been working on lately. This theater only commercial for Sprint and Goodby Silverstein & Partners is one of two spreading the message of "Please, no talking or texting during the film."DC Heads North and SouthDeepMix partner, Dave Curtin, is making the rounds on the music conference circuit heading to Canadian Music Week in Toronto followed by SXSW in Austin. He is slated to speak on panels at each conference. For more info follow these links: Canadian Music Week, SXSW. Wine & SongSouth Pasadena is a popular nesting spot for many artists but rarely registers on the nightlife radar. That’s gradually changing, however, thanks to Brad Colerick's weekly Wine & Song gatherings at WineStyles. Since its low-key launch in October, Wine & Song has bubbled into an inviting community hub for musicians, songwriters, and wine geeks. Some of the artists who have appeared recently include Joe Pug, Randy Weeks, Tony Gilkyson, Dan Navarro, Severin Browne, Austin Hartley-Leonard, Rob Laufer and Sweet Talk Radio. Shows start at 7pm. WineStyles is located at 1007 Mission Street in South Pasadena.
